ProForm 225 CSX Review 2026

The ProForm 225 CSX is the most affordable way onto iFIT. An upright with a 7kg flywheel, 20 levels of Silent Magnetic Resistance and a 5-inch display, running iFIT from your own tablet, for £399. It is strong value for steady cardio, with one notable compromise: the handlebars do not adjust.

The verdict

For £399 the 225 CSX gets the essentials right. A 7kg inertia-enhanced flywheel and 20 levels of quiet SMR magnetic resistance give a smooth ride that steps up cleanly, the belt drive keeps it quiet, and the oversized cushioned seat adjusts both ways. You connect your own tablet to the integrated device shelf to run the full iFIT platform beside the clear 5-inch LCD, and the bike is compact, with a footprint of around 91 by 59cm. As an affordable, connected upright for steady cardio, it is genuinely good value.

The compromises are the ones you would expect at the price, plus one specific niggle. The flywheel is light and the ride is good rather than premium, the bike is fairly lightweight in the hand, and crucially the handlebars are fixed, with no adjustment, so taller riders in particular may struggle to dial in an ideal position. The seat does adjust, which helps. It is also a streamlined machine, with no built-in speakers or fan, leaning on your own device for entertainment. As the cheapest route onto iFIT, though, the 225 CSX is a sensible, well-priced first bike.

Ride feel and real-world experience

On the bike, the 225 CSX rides smoothly for an affordable upright. The 7kg inertia-enhanced flywheel gives a steady pedal stroke, the 20 levels of SMR magnetic resistance are quiet and cover the range most riders need, and the belt drive keeps everything hushed. It is pitched at steady cardio and general fitness rather than hard, out-of-the-saddle efforts, and for that it does the job well.

Comfort is a mixed picture, and it comes down to one decision ProForm made. The oversized cushioned seat is comfortable and adjusts both up and down and fore and aft, but the handlebars are fixed, with no adjustment at all. For average-height riders that is fine, but taller riders in particular may find they cannot get an ideal reach, so it is worth considering your height before buying. The extra-wide ergonomic pedals have adjustable straps to keep your feet secure.

This is a deliberately streamlined bike. You run iFIT from your own tablet on the integrated device shelf, beside the clear 5-inch LCD that shows your live stats, and there are no built-in speakers or cooling fan to inflate the price. Your workout data syncs out to Strava, Garmin, Google Fit and Apple Health. It is light and compact, which makes it easy to live with, if not the most planted bike under a hard sprint.

Assembly, size and setup

The 225 CSX arrives boxed for home assembly and is one of the easier bikes to put together, being compact and relatively light. Most people will manage it solo in well under an hour with the supplied tools. Its small footprint of around 91 by 59cm makes it easy to place, and it is simple to move. As with any new bike, check the pedals and bolts are fully tight after the first few rides.

Living with it: noise, footprint and storage

The SMR magnetic resistance and belt drive keep the 225 CSX quiet, so it suits flats and shared homes, and its compact, lightweight build makes it the easy bike to tuck into a corner of a room. There is very little upkeep beyond the occasional wipe-down and a bolt check. The main thing to live with is the fixed handlebars, so make sure the riding position suits you before you commit.

The iFIT app and subscription

The 225 CSX runs iFIT, the same platform as NordicTrack, from your own tablet or phone connected over Bluetooth and rested on the device shelf. A 30-day iFIT trial is included; after that a membership is sold separately, renews until cancelled and needs Wi-Fi. It unlocks more than 10,000 trainer-led workouts, scenic routes and SmartAdjust automatic resistance, with your data syncing to Strava, Garmin, Google Fit and Apple Health.

Is the iFIT subscription worth it?

Because the 225 CSX is an entry-level upright, the subscription is very much optional. The bike works perfectly well as a manual machine, letting you set resistance and read your stats on the 5-inch LCD without paying a penny more. The 30-day trial is the sensible way to decide: if the iFIT classes and routes keep you motivated, the membership is worth it; if you are happy to put on your own entertainment and just pedal, you can run the bike without one and still get your money’s worth.

How it compares

Within ProForm, the 225 CSX is the upright sibling of the recumbent 325 CSX: pick the upright to save space and money, the recumbent for comfort and back support. On the same iFIT platform, NordicTrack’s GX LE Upright is the obvious step up, with adjustable handlebars and a higher user limit, though it costs more. And if you would rather skip the subscription entirely, the Viavito Satori is a cheaper connected upright with no membership at all.

Similar spec, different brand: you may want to consider the NordicTrack GX LE Upright, the sister-brand iFIT upright, pricier but with adjustable handlebars and a higher user limit.

Who it is for

Buy the 225 CSX if you want the cheapest way onto iFIT and an upright suits you: it is a sensible, well-priced first bike for steady cardio and general fitness, as long as its fixed handlebars work for your height. If you are taller and need bar adjustment, the NordicTrack GX LE Upright is the step up; if you want recumbent comfort, look at the 325 CSX; and if you would rather avoid a subscription, the Viavito Satori is the value alternative.

A 7kg flywheel and 20 quiet SMR levels give a smooth, steady ride that is well suited to cardio and general fitness, if not hard intervals.

Build quality 3.9

A compact, lightweight upright that feels a little less planted than heavier bikes, and the fixed handlebars limit the fit for taller riders.

Value 4.2

Outstanding. At £399 it is the cheapest route onto iFIT, with a real flywheel, 20 resistance levels and the full platform via your own tablet.

Features 3.8

The full iFIT platform with SmartAdjust and app syncing, kept basic by the lack of a built-in screen, speakers or fan, which is how the price stays low.
